Dear Editor, I need to lose 25 pounds. How many calories per day should I eat? I'm female and moderately active. I'm 5 feet and 3 inches tall and I'm 36 years old. I was hoping with this information you can help estimate my calorie intake each day to lose 25 pounds. ~~ Carrie Dear Carrie, Thanks for giving us your specific height, age and activity level. You fall into the same category that most women who need to lose 25 pounds or more. We suggest that you consume between 1200 and 1400 calories per day. At this rate, you'll lose about a pound each week. You can even consume 1100 calories per day but you may be vulnerable to an occasional binge, which happens when you eat too few calories. Make sure you don't skip any meals and try to eat 2 mini snacks between your regular meals. To help burn more calories and speed up your weight loss, include some type of low intensity exercise for 30 minutes a day, 5 to 6 days per week. We suggest stationary bike riding at a moderate pace because you can exercise in front of your favorite TV program. To lose weight, you have to burn
more calories than you take in. Resist the temptation to eat too few
calories (less than 1000 calories) because eating too few calories will
cause you to binge and slow your metabolism.
