Dear Editor, My friend told me about this new egg diet. She said that you can eat as much eggs, cheese, steak, as you want. Basically any food that is low carb, especially egg, meats and diary products. She also said the diet is safe because it's low carb, and the low carbs will cause your body to burn stored fat. Is this true? It sounds good but eating all those meats and diary products makes me nervous. ~~ Althea Dear Althea You are right to be nervous about the egg diet. First of all, any diet that emphasizes unlimited consumption of fatty meats and diary products to lose weight is not only ridiculous but dangerous. To lose weight, you need to burn more calories than you take in. Diets such as the egg diet is just another diet scam. The common mistake of many low carb diets is they don't understand the difference between good carbs and bad carbs. All carbs are not bad. Sugar and starch found in junk food are bad carbs. However, your diet should contain whole grain, beans, whole grain pasta (legumes), fruits and vegetables, which contain complex carbs. These carbs give you plenty of energy and contain fiber, vitamins and disease fighting nutrients. Eliminating these foods from your diet is dangerous. Eating a high consumption of meats, egg and other dairy products is just plan stupid. These foods are high in cholesterol, high in calorie and high in fat. The egg diet states you can eat all you want of meats, cheese, eggs and dairy products to lose weight. This is totally false. First of all, you'll consume way too many calories and second, your cholesterol count will go through the roof, which causes all kinds of heart related diseases. Stay away from the egg diet and
other fad diet that emphasizes heavy consumption of red meats and diary
products. You won't lose weight and you will damage your overall healthy
with all that artery clogging fat.
