Dear Editor, I desperately need to lose weight fast and my friend recommended a liquid diet. She said I could lose 20 pounds in a few weeks if I drink a liquid shake twice a day and eat a small meal for dinner. This sounds like a good idea. Do you think it will work and is it safe? ~~ Pam Dear Pam, Liquid diets sound easy in theory but are very difficult to maintain. Most people fail after the first day and others give up within the first few days. Liquid diets are a quick fix approach to losing weight which usually end up in failure. Instead of losing weight fast, strive to lose about a pound each week, eating regular food. Eat small meals and space your meals 3 to 4 hours apart. Stay within a calorie range of 1200 to 1400 calories per day and you will comfortably lose all the weight you want, one week at a time. Incorporate some type of daily exercise routine such as stationary biking or fast pace walking for best weight loss results. Avoid any type of crash diet, no matter how good it sounds. Crash diets are impossible to
maintain and are not very safe. Your blood sugar level will go haywire
and you'll suffer with low energy. It's more important to learn how to
eat real food while limiting your portion size. Losing weight is a
process, and you need to learn how to make good food selections and stay
consistent with your diet plan.
